The city center of Vienna is transformed into a partly ‘oversized’ open air party platform with a varicolored music- and show program from traditional music, pop, rock, blues, funk & soul and electronic beats.
The program already starts in the late afternoon on December 31st and ends between 02.00 and 04.00 hours on January 01st. It is supported by the most well known radio stations in Austria like Radio Wien, Ö3, Superfly, Radio Arabella and their individual acts.

In 2011 the program shows acts like ‘Saturday D.I.S.C.O. Fever Live’, a Madonna Cover Show called ‘Like a Virgin’, ‘DIVAS of POP’ and several DJ collective acts.

The ‘Silvesterpfad’ is complemented by more than 80 gastronomical spots and stands and is definitely a highlights for the party-people from Vienna and those who stay in Vienna but still are unsure how & where to party during NYE …

We recommend … do not miss this one!

Who are you?
We are Martin Gaughan and Colm Keane, together have have been best friends for over 5 years.

2. What do you like about what you do?
We both work in Television. It’s an exciting profession that is always changing as people’s ideas and the things they like change and become more liberal. Television always reflects what people think but also challenges them to think new things, so it’s exciting to be a part of programmes that do that.

3. What don’t you like about what you do?
The job is exciting, yes, but if there was something not to like, or that is difficult, is getting the content of TV shows right. People will switch off straight away if they don’t like what they see. Also, the TV market gets really busy, but similarly, it can get extremely quiet.

4. Please tell us about ‘Eurotrip’, its goals and the mission!
Eurotrip is a project being run by TalktoEu, which is a public information initiative being run by the EU Commission in Ireland. The idea is to show people how open and accessible the EU is to its citizens and that you can freely move around these countries and work in them, experience their cultures, the people, or just go for a holiday.

5. Which cities do you visit with regards to ‘Eurotrip’?
Helsinki, Talinn, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Zagreb, Ljubjana, Rome, Strasbourg, Paris, Luxebourg and Brussels. We’re extremely excited about staying at The Ring in Vienna. It’s such a beautiful city and to experience it through such a spectacular hotel will be a real treat.

6. How do you promote ‘Eurotrip’ and your experiences?
The main promotion is through the website: www.talktoeu.ie/eurotrip. In Ireland, there are radio ads on almost every radio station informing people about the website and what the trip is about. There’s also ads being run on the internet, plus we are making videos for YouTube that people watch and it also spreads the word.

7. In which hotels do you stay when visiting the cities/countries?
We’ll be staying with The Ring in Vienna, Bhudda Bar in Prague, The Four Seasons in Budapest and The Radisson in Rome. Our hotels after Rome are currently being booked.

8. Any comments you want to share with us?
The experience so far has been absolutely spectacular. This has been down to the amazing people in each country, but also down to the amazing people who have welcomed us so warmly in every place we have stayed. We know The Ring will be one of the warmest welcomes we can expect, and we look forward to documenting our time there and coming back more and more.

Vienna Concert Hall, October 14th 2009
An impressive range of film composers will contribute to the second “Hollywood in Vienna” Film Music Gala, which takes place in the Vienna Concert Hall on October 14th, with the prestigious Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

After the first “Hollywood in Vienna” film music gala concert in 2007, the city of music is once more celebrating its musical connection with the dream factory on October 14th, 2009. With this concert series, the City of Vienna honors and recognizes the achievements of its Viennese composers, who profoundly contributed to the history of film music – with Max Steiner and Erich Wolfgang Korngold on top of the list – and the art of film music in general.

In order to emphasize that film music is just as valuable as “serious” classical music, the “Hollywood in Vienna” concert series takes place in the prestigious Vienna concert hall, interpreted by the highly regarded Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and broadcast via several European radio stations. Furthermore, the City of Vienna now starts to award the most important film composers of our time with the newly established “Max Steiner Award“.

The first film composer to receive this award by the mayor of Vienna at the “Hollywood in Vienna” concert on October 14th is the world renowned 5-time Oscar winning film composer John Barry. Few composers of the past half-century have enjoyed as much popular success or worldwide influence as John Barry, who has written some of the most memorable movie music of our time. Barry will accept the award in person and will take over the baton himself to conduct highlights of his film music, like his legendary “Goldfinger“.
The Gala´s host is American born star conductor John Axelrod, who will lead through the evening. The John Barry tribute program will be presented by guest conductor Nicholas Dodd, who is also known as conductor and arranger of the past Bond scores by David Arnold, such as “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace“.

The concert program will include some of the most famous film scores by John Barry, such as, “Out of Africa” and “Dances with Wolves” a “James Bond Suite”. David Arnold and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli will also fly to Vienna on this occasion and attend the concert.

On October 9th & 10th 2009 John Barry, as well as Bruce Broughton, David Arnold, Nicholas Dodd and Austrian born Hollywood composer Harald Kloser will also take part in an International Film Music Symposium at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts.
