<p><em>Vienna Concert Hall, October 14th 2009</em><br />
An impressive range of film composers will contribute to the second &#8220;Hollywood in Vienna&#8221; Film Music Gala, which takes place in the Vienna Concert Hall on October 14th, with the prestigious <a href="http://rso.orf.at">Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra</a>.</p>
<p><a title="Hollywood In Vienna Gala" rel="lightbox[hollywoodinvienna]" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2479/3991885661_6660eb2237_o.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1404" title="Hollywood In Vienna Gala" src="http://blog.theringhotel.com/wp-content/uploads/en/2010/10/hollywood-in-vienna-gala-thumb.jpg" alt="Hollywood In Vienna" width="150" height="113" /></a>After the first <strong>&#8220;<a href="http://www.hollywoodinvienna.com">Hollywood in Vienna</a>&#8221; film music gala concert</strong> in 2007, the city of music is once more celebrating its musical connection with the dream factory on <strong>October 14th, 2009</strong>. With this concert series, the City of Vienna honors and recognizes the achievements of its Viennese composers, who profoundly contributed to the history of film music &#8211; with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Steiner">Max Steiner</a> and <a href="http://www.korngold-society.org">Erich Wolfgang Korngold</a> on top of the list &#8211; and the art of film music in general.</p>
<p>In order to emphasize that film music is just as valuable as &#8220;serious&#8221; classical music, the &#8220;Hollywood in Vienna&#8221; concert series takes place in the prestigious Vienna concert hall, interpreted by the highly regarded <strong>Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra</strong> and broadcast via several European radio stations. Furthermore, the City of Vienna now starts to award the most important film composers of our time with the newly established &#8220;<strong>Max Steiner Award</strong>&#8220;.</p>
<p><a title="John Barry" rel="lightbox[hollywoodinvienna]" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3458/3992620406_e0ab706fd9_b.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1402" title="John Barry" src="http://blog.theringhotel.com/wp-content/uploads/en/2010/10/john-barry-oscar-thumb.jpg" alt="John Barry" width="150" height="206" /></a>The first film composer to receive this award by the mayor of Vienna at the &#8220;Hollywood in Vienna&#8221; concert on October 14th is the <strong>world renowned 5-time Oscar winning film composer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barry_%28composer%29">John Barry</a></strong>. Few composers of the past half-century have enjoyed as much popular success or worldwide influence as John Barry, who has written some of the most memorable movie music of our time. Barry will accept the award in person and will take over the baton himself to conduct highlights of his film music, like his legendary &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058150/">Goldfinger</a>&#8220;.<br />
The Gala´s host is American born star conductor <a href="http://www.johnaxelrod.com">John Axelrod</a>, who will lead through the evening. The John Barry tribute program will be presented by guest conductor <a href="http://www.imdb.de/name/nm0230105/">Nicholas Dodd</a>, who is also known as conductor and arranger of the past Bond scores by <a href="http://www.davidarnold.com">David Arnold</a>, such as &#8220;<a href="http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/casinoroyale/">Casino Royale</a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="http://www.007.com">Quantum of Solace</a>&#8220;.</p>
<p>The concert program will include some of the most famous film scores by John Barry, such as, &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089755/">Out of Africa</a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099348/">Dances with Wolves</a>&#8221; a &#8220;James Bond Suite&#8221;. David Arnold and Bond producer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Broccoli">Barbara Broccoli</a> will also fly to Vienna on this occasion and attend the concert.</p>
<p><a title="Sean Connery as James Bond" rel="lightbox[hollywoodinvienna]" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3523/3991885703_aa19d6dac7_o.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-1405 alignright" title="Sean Connery as James-Bond" src="http://blog.theringhotel.com/wp-content/uploads/en/2010/10/james-bond-thumb.jpg" alt="Sean Connery as James-Bond" width="150" height="208" /></a>Apart from Barry´s compositions the Radio-Symphony Orchestra Vienna will play several other film music highlights, from &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/">Casablanca</a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056172/">Lawrence of Arabia</a>&#8221; to &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&amp;q=Seven+years+in+Tibet">Seven years in Tibet</a>&#8220;, &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090022/">Silverado</a>&#8220;, and &#8220;<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319262/">The Day after Tomorrow</a>&#8221; – with the composers Bruce Broughton and Harald Kloser in attendance.</p>
<p>On October 9th &amp; 10th 2009 John Barry, as well as Bruce Broughton, David Arnold, Nicholas Dodd and Austrian born Hollywood composer Harald Kloser will also take part in an International Film Music Symposium at the <a href="http://www.mdw.ac.at">Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts</a>.</p>
