A Finnish Hospitality Management graduate group from Turku University of Applied Sciences got a once in a lifetime experience to enjoy casual luxury in The Ring Hotel in March 15th as a part of our strategic management studies. The study trip included visiting exciting hotels and meeting interesting tourism persons, including Assistant General Manager of The Ring and Grand Hotel Wien, Mr. Carl-Peter Echtermeijer.

He kindly welcomed us for a tour in Grand Hotel Wien to show some of the everyday life of this beautiful, legendary hotel and opened a door for the world of leading five star hotels in Vienna. We also got a chance to interview Mr. Echtermeijer to better understand some of the operational issues in hotel marketing and management.

We want to thank Mr. Echtermeijer and the whole hotel staff for making our stay unforgettable, both professionally and as a lovely getaway from ordinary life. The heartwarming attitude towards the future hotel industry professionals and meeting Mr. Echtermeijer gave us motivation and many new ideas to bring back to Finland. We hope we can someday welcome you to Finland as our guests and return the joy we got from our stay in The Ring. Only thing we disagree is that it wasn’t casual, it was pure luxury.

With kind regards,
Cinema legend Claudia Cardinale, Italian film diva Monica Belluci, Pop Music Icon Marianne Faithfull, supermodel Elle McPherson, fashion trendsetter Angela Missoni and the famous popstars Anastacia and Kelly Clarkson from the US were ‘caught’ by the over 400 journalists and 31 camera teams from around the globe. The award’s gala was hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Noor of Jordan and honoured extraordinary women for their remarkable achievements in 12 different categories.

Side by side with the stars fascinating and inspiring women such as Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Betty Williams, Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Esther Mujawajo-Keiner and the 10 year old Nojood Ali from Yemen received this most prestigious honor for women (Larry King – CNN). Over 1500 distinguished guests attended the event, which was taped for television to be broadcast internationally, and was filled with numerous highlights, such as the aftershow party which took place at the Vienna City Hall.

All stars and celebrities were accommodated at the Grand Hotel Wien and The Ring, Vienna’s Casual Luxury Hotel for the Women’s World Awards 2009. In total over 60 rooms and suites were prepared for their arrival and stay at both hotels. The hotel management was confronted with several so-called ‘hospitality riders’ where the guests did mention their special wishes.

At The Ring, Vienna’s Casual Luxury Hotel, US-popstar Anastacia, famous for her songs like ‘I’m outta love’ and ‘Left outside alone’, was greeted by Mr. Carl-Peter Echtermeijer, and personally escorted to the hotel’s largest suite.
